HOOK & NEST TYPE END EFFECTOR

The nest type of end-effector is commonly used in pick and place applications where no horizontal part rotation is required. This end-effector generally will hold the part in cradle type lift pads or fingers to keep the part “nested” and secure for transfer. Some of the advantages of using this type of end-effector are: No clamp or unclamp buttons to push, easier to locate end-effector to part, and faster cycle time.
This type of tool would be suspended from most forms of lift assist (arms, cable balancers, vertical balancers), but is more likely to be found suspended from a cable balancer utilizing a bridge and runway system.
CLAMP TYPE END EFFECTOR

The clamp type end effector will utilize one of the following clamping mechanisms; an air actuated sliding clamp (as shown above), mechanical or powered pivot, power clamp or power gripper, depending on the particular application.
This type of end effector is commonly used in material handling applications to address a specific task and part or parts. Instances of this would be picking to and from a dunnage, conveyor, machine or other material holding apparatus.
This type of tool would be suspended from most forms of lift assist (arms, cable balancers, vertical balancers), this tool could also be outfitted with tilts, rotates, and pivots for part manipulation. In most instances this would include a controls system with operator buttons and a series of valves and logic components for the clamping, tilting, or rotating of the load to be manipulated.
VACUUM TYPE END EFFECTOR
The vacuum type of end-effector uses a series of vacuum cups either fixed of adjustable mounted, these cups are piped to a vacuum pump or also referred to as a venturi.
The advantage of this type of end effector is the ability to transfer and install the product without damaging delicate surfaces. A back-up safety clamp (or clamps) may be used in this type of application to prevent operator injury or damage to product and equipment due to vacuum failure.
This type of end effector like the clamp type is commonly used in material handling applications to address a specific task and part or parts, such as a metal stamping or glass handling application. Instances of this would be picking to and from a dunnage, conveyor, machine or other material apparatus.

MAGNET TYPE END EFFECTOR

The magnetic type of end-effector uses a rare earth, electro or mechanical type magnet.
The advantage of this type of end effector is the ability to transfer and install the product without damaging delicate surfaces. A back-up safety clamp (or clamps) may be used in this type of application to prevent operator injury or damage to product and equipment due to magnet failure.

The cable cylinder and can style balancers are one of the most commonly used lifting devices in tool or material handling applications. These units pound for pound provide more versatility than any other type of lift assist; they are available with a vertical lifting capacity to 120 inches and loads to 2000 pounds.
These units are normally suspended from a bridge and runway system with many trolley options, this allows for complete coverage of a work area or station. These units can also be found suspended from floor or column mounted jibs and booms. These units would be used in a tool or nut-runner application when torque absorbing is not an issue, in material handling applications they are best utilized when freedom of movement of load are required.
The controls for these units can be a simple pendant up/down to custom designed systems that incorporate multiple balances, tilts, and rotates of parts and end effectors.
